It´s vision is: Communities that stand as active agentes of their own sustainable development.

There has been growing recognition that the power of computing and information technology must be, and can be, extended beyond its traditional user base to reach people who until now have not had access to such technology. Being digitally connected has become ever more critical to economic, educational, and social advancement. The term “Digital Inclusion” is used in this document to describe the goal of expanding the capabilities of computing technology worldwide to better serve social and economic challenges of underserved communities.

MSD - Mira Sintra DigitalK’CIDADE Program, an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation in partnership with HP and other entities, opened in the past January’s 18th its second Digital Inclusion Center, in Mira Sintra.

The Mira Sintra Digital has the main objective to provide Mira Sintra residents and workers with the ideal conditions to obtain certified training in IT in order to optimize its own business, realize school or personal work as well as community activities.

This project includes three Digital Centers in Portugal. The first center inaugurated in March 2006 in Alta de Lisbon counted with 3900 hours of training during all year.

The 3 centers will develop the MAP (Microenterprise Acceleration Program) training and 60 persons are expected to participate in this training in 2007. The HP MAP is a program developed by HP to offer to micro enterprises the access to technology and training to optimize its own business. Through MAP, HP helps the communities to create and increase business given them access to the necessary IT tools.
